Online grant writing class

Online learning is individual and self-paced.  Students may begin the online course at any time.  Students are assigned an instructor who is a Certified Grant Writer® with at least 10 years of experience  and 5 years of teaching experience.  The instructor will e-mail the student course materials and assignments one section at a time.  The student will need to complete assignments in one section before proceeding to the next section.  Students may e-mail the instructor when s/he has a question about the course material or assignments.

Students have 90 days from the date of purchase to complete assignments.  Most  students spend about 42 hours to complete the 6 assignments.   A 90-day extension is available for $100 if a student needs additional time.  The extention may be purchased up to one year after the purchase of the online course on the Marketplace page.  At the conclusion of the course, students are asked to submit a Course Evaluation.

Prerequisites:   A Bachelor's Degree is strongly recommended, but not required. A strong math aptitude (Algebra I) is recommended to successfully complete the budget exercises.

Hardware and Software :  Students will need a computer with any operating system and will need to use the following Software:  Word, Excel, and Adobe Reader.  Students will also need an e-mail address and internet access.  

In addition, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program Office of Fellowship Training sponsors an extensive workshop for fellows and investigators working at the NIMH, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Eye Institute (NEI), National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). There are 100 seats available (50 seats for NIMH individuals and 50 seats for individuals from the remainder of the institutes), so early registration is suggested. This workshop is organized into three phases. Workshop Phase I is full day workshop that provides an overview of the entire process of drafting and submitting a grant proposal, Workshop Phase II focuses on the preparation of your Specific Aims page, Significance Paragraph and Biosketch with review, Workshop Phase III is a 10-12 week tutorial on the writing of an RO1 grant application using the PHS 398 application format. Individuals working at the above mentioned institutes interested in participating in this workshop should contact the Office of Fellowship Training at NIMHfellowships@ for further information.

Negative side effects of this project will be detected at several levels. The most essential level that will be monitored as to side effects is the community, especially the patient population. Information from these oral interviews mentioned above, both positive and negative, will be reviewed by our Board of Directors on a monthly basis, and adjustments will be made accordingly. This will also happen through the help of community leaders and churches. Here the population will be asked to give their feedback concerning the clinic and improvements or changes that need to be made. This information will be channeled back to the Board, which will try to implement as many changes as possible to improve services.
